The Greek philosophical term PHRONESIS, which this international trio has taken as its name, means the ability to decide how to achieve a certain end and the ability to reflect upon and determine good ends. Danish double bassist Jasper Høiby, Swedish drummer Anton Erger and British pianist Ivo Neame chose the band’s name for good reason: the trio’s music is ingenious and complex without ever becoming inaccessible. The goal is simple: to allow as many people as possible to enjoy the refreshing acoustic jazz the band has been playing since 2005. And they are achieving that goal: PHRONESIS has gone on a world tour and Alive (2010) was selected as Album of the Year by leading jazz magazines. The long-awaited fifth album, Life To Everything, which was recorded live during three sessions at the London Jazz Festival, was released in April. Fans of inspiring, creative jazz in the spirit of e.s.t. must absolutely not miss this trio at the North Sea Jazz Festival.
